Executive Director's Report

 

12:35PM   Action: Report provided by Julie Gallelo.

  • Governor Brown signed AB908 into law to expand Paid Family Leave, making it easier for low-income families to use the leave they are entitled to.
  • The Sacramento District Dental Society’s Nugget magazine featured First 5 Sacramento's role on improving children's dental outcomes over the past decade.
  • The State Department of Health Care Services will be releasing an RFP to fund up to 15 local dental pilot programs in 2017. DHHS and MCDAC are working together to plan a grant application.
  • A Letter of Intent was released in April seeking a consultant to research parental knowledge and attitudes regarding dental care for their children.
  • A Request for Proposals was released in April seeking a partner agency to provide outreach, education and dental case management services.

Commissioner Kossick volunteered staff from SETA/Head Start to participate in the review of the proposals and to assist getting the word out to parents.

Public Hearing: Adoption of the Fiscal Year 2016-17 Recommended Budget and Ten Year Financial Plan

Chair Serna opened the public hearing and no public comments were made. Kim Kendzior presented the information and responded to questions on the documentation. The public hearing was closed.

12:56PM   Action:  Chair Serna opened the public hearing and no public comments were made. Carmen Garcia-Gomez presented the information and updated the documentation. The public hearing was closed.

 

5.

Presentation:  Birth and Beyond Evaluation Report

 

1:01PM   Action: Presentation by Sheila Boxley of the Child Abuse Prevention Center.

Members of the audience spoke of their positive experiences through Birth and Beyond, especially related to the home visiting program.

Chair Serna gave his thanks to Birth and Beyond for their services.

Presentation:  Children’s Doubled Importance for Our Successful New Future (based on data from Dowell Myers, PhD)

 

1:48PM  Action: Julie Gallelo gave the presentation, which was a condensed version of the full PowerPoint presentation created by  Dowell Myers, PhD.
