The Recreation and Park Commission welcomes and encourages participation in the Commission meetings. When it appears there are several members of the public wishing to address the Commission on a specific item, at the outset of the item the Chairperson of the Commission will announce the maximum amount of time that will be allowed for presentation of testimony. Matters under the jurisdiction of the Commission and not on the posted agenda may be addressed by the general public under Public Comments. The Commission limits testimony on matters not on the agenda to three minutes per person, and not more than fifteen minutes for a particular subject.

6:42 PM  Board Action: Amber Veselka, Recreation Supervisor, presented the annual report for the Leisure Services Division.

7:34 PM  Board Action: Commission discussed the proposed bylaws. Significant amount of the discussion revolved around the groups that should comprise the membership of the Committee.

 

8:04 PM Board Action: Claudia Goss/ Lilly Allen - Motion to Return American River Parkway Advisory Committee Bylaws to Committee with suggestion that the Committee discuss with the Director of Homeless Initiatives, or similar professional, as possibly being included on the Committee, and reduce the number of members on the Committee by combining like groups.

8:19 PM  Board Action: Commissioner Barbar Appointed a Special Committee titled the CIP Committee to Research Grants for the Long-Term Regional Parks Unfunded Capital Improvement Plan, with Commissioner Allen being Chair of the Special Committee, and Herz being on the Committee.

DIRECTOR COMMENTS

 

8:28 PM Board Action: Director Bellas told the Committee that the Deputy Director interviews are complete, and will meet again with the top candidates to discuss the Department and role in greater detail.

Mile marker 16.5 washout construction is due to being August 5th, 2019 in partnership with the City of Rancho Cordova, who will be doing repairs on the culvert.

SACOG received CalTrans funding and Regional Parks will receive some of this funding.

Regional Parks is partnering with a group for the Steelhead Creek restoration, going to the Board on August 20th, 2019.

Grant applications submitted to Lower American River Conservancy for various projects.

Parks staff removed the Alder picnic site before July 4th.

Prop 66 funding may be available to the Department.

Department is participating with Regional Water Board on an e-coli study upstream of Discovery Park.

Caltrans is doing corridor planning around I-5/I-80 about another crossing or expansion of I-5.

Great American River Triathalon was last week and went well.

Bay Area boating event will be happening this weekend again, and are working with multiple other law enforcement agencies, including shutting down the Tiscornia Beach parking lot.

Director Bellas is unavailable on August 22nd for the regular meeting, and the meeting is cancelled.
